Please contact me at jane.therapy1@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Unfortunately there is no easy answer to this question. Some people need just one session, others need many more. Usually I would suggest working together for 6-8 sessions and then having a short review to see where you feel you want to go after that.
Not at all. We can work together for as long as we both feel it is beneficial for you.
Often if people have had different kinds of therapy, there has been 'homework' involved. Person-centred therapy - my foundation of practice - doesn't involve homework or worksheets. That being said, if you felt it would be helpful for you, it's something we can explore together!
If we are working face-to-face, I will provide a comfortable, peaceful area, tissues and water. I also have a supply of paper and pens should you need them. If you wanted to bring anything else to our session that might help you, that's absolutely fine. Please note I do not allow animals (except service dogs) in the therapy space, and you should arrive free from the effects of drugs and alcohol. The therapy space is a no smoking environment.
If we are working online, you will only need to have your device ready and set up with either FaceTime, WhatsApp or Skype video chat. I would also suggest it is plugged into mains power if possible. It may be helpful to you to have tissues and water available should you need them, and some people like to have a pen and paper handy too.
At the moment (as I am currently still serving too) there would be too many complex ethical issues in offering counselling to fellow Service members. However, this is certainly an avenue for the future, and in the meantime I am glad to be able to offer therapy to military veterans, dependants, civil servants and contractors, as well as anyone else in the community!
